Book Review-Texas Gothic

Title: Texas Gothic
Author: Rosemary Clement-Moore

This story is in present day Texas, one of the reasons I wanted to read it, duh! The main characters are these 2 sisters, one is a sophomore in college and one is just graduating college.  They are staying on their aunt’s family ranch for a couple weeks over the summer to look after it while she is away on vacation.  What they don’t know when they sign up for the job is how much they will become involved in while staying there.  They meet Ben McCoulluck, the neighbor, and Amy actually falls for him a little bit despite the hostility between them at the beginning of the story! Phin is on the eggcentric side and doesn’t care who sees it while Amy is desperately trying to cover up the weirdness of her sister and the rest of their family.  The story goes through and allows you to go along with the girls on different adventures and even sense some of the dangerous places they find themselves.

In my opinion the book was not bad, but not great! It took me a while to really get into and understand what was going on.  I also have a hard time believing a lot of super natural occurrences so it was hard for me to truly get into the book.  I did later find myself very eager to keep reading and finish it.  I needed to know what happened to Ben and his bridge as well as what happened between Ben and Amy.  The end of the book was a bit disappointing in my opinion but maybe she left it so there could be a sequel.

This is a good book for a young and gullible reader or for someone that is just looking for a new book to read that won’t take a long time to get through.  I don’t know that it would be on the top of my list to go out and tell my friends you HAVE to read this book.

Stay tuned for the next book review, The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene
